LizziDee (she, her)

Teacher, Certified Yoga Therapy Instructor

In 1999 my best friend, a fellow modern dancer, invited me to my first yoga class and I was immediately hooked. Luckily, I was then based in Los Angeles and had unlimited access to Power and Vinyasa Yoga. A few years later, when a whiplash injury and scoliosis started catching up with me, my practice shifted toward the more therapeutic Iyengar method.

In 2005 I received my 230-hour teaching certificate in alignment-based Hatha Yoga with Lillah Schwartz, a direct student of BKS Iyengar, in Asheville, NC.  In 2014, I completed my Level II-500 hour certification, with an emphasis on yoga’s therapeutic applications in back care, heart health, the organ systems, sleep disorders, MS, and the asymmetric body.

My passion is to share the healing power of a mindful yoga practice. In the words of Mr. Iyengar, “Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.”

In my classes we learn to master the breath, we create length and space through precision in body alignment, and we create awareness and stability through isometric actions within each asana (pose).   My students learn variations and modifications with the use of props, providing every body access to the therapeutic benefit of the asanas.
