Intro to Vinyasa Yoga
Wed, Feb. 6, 2019, 6:30–7:45 pm@ Buffalo Foundry
Our Intro to Vinyasa Yoga Course is designed for beginner yoga students interested in this dynamic flowing practice. Vinyasa yoga emphasizes the connections between breath and movement, mind and body, strength and flexibility, effort and ease (sthira and sukha).
We explore the basics of Vinyasa Yoga, including sun salutations (surya namaskar), that build heat and serve as a link between the postures, connecting them into a moving mediation. We focus on proper alignment in all poses (asana); including standing poses, forward folds, backbends, twists, and balances. We emphasize the importance of warm ups, progressions, modifications, and the use of props that make Vinyasa yoga safe and effective. We encourage you to challenge yourself appropriately and intelligently.
Previous yoga experience is not necessary. If you have mobility issues that prevent you from easily getting up from and down to the floor, or are looking for a consistently slower paced instructional practice, please check out: Wise Warriors, Hatha, or Gentle/Restorative Yoga at Buffalo Foundry; or Chair Yoga or Slow Yoga at Village Glen.
Our goal at East Meets West is to make yoga accessible and enjoyable for every body. We believe that yoga allows you to live and move more safely and comfortably in your own body.
We recommend that you come to class dressed in comfortable clothing and ready to practice in bare feet. Please bring a yoga mat, a water bottle, and a willingness to learn and try new things. (If you don’t have a mat, you may borrow one from us.)
The price of this course is $70 for all five consecutive classes. Enrollment includes a $10 discount on our One Month Unlimited Yoga Pass upon completion of the course. Preregistration is required.
Vinyasa yoga, often described as a moving meditation, is a dynamic breath-focused practice that utilizes sun salutations to link intelligently sequenced poses into a continuously flowing organic whole.
